01. Your name is? (Why is this your name? How'd you get it? Any nicknames or titles?)
Rev. Sophia Mann; it was given to her by her parents. She earned the title Reverend after being ordained in the Ecclesia Gnostica.
02. What do you look like? (How old are you and how old do you appear to be?)
Sophia is pale, skinned Caucasian. She has ice blue eyes and long, straight, blond hair. She is short (5'0") and her build is thin and bony. Sophia is in her mid 20s, but due to her size and build has an almost adolescent look to her.
03. What is your style and attitude? (How do you dress and talk? Are you cultured or backbirth?)
Sophia wears the basic slacks and collared shirt common to Shepherds. Hers always seem to be overly large, rumpled and ill-fitting; as if she doesn't care about her appearances. Sophia wears no makeup or jewelry of any kind and keeps her long hair in a simple braid that runs down her back. Her social class is immediately apparent, the minute she opens her mouth. Sophia's speech and manners are very precise and cultured.
04. Do you have any quirks we should know about first?
Sophia always seems to be thinking about something. She tends to live with her head in the clouds.
05. What kind of impression do you think you make first?
Absent minded professor.
06. Where do you hail from? (Where were you born? Where did you grow up? What was your childhood and youth like? What does your family think of you?)
Sophia was born on Londinium, May 24, 2488. She grew up in a wealthy home on Londinium and had a life of privilege. Sophia's family was very close and loving. Her extreme skill with electronics and computers earned her a quick academic track in that direction. The Mann's think she's nuts for giving that all up for some "idiotic spiritual quest."
07. What is your best quality as a person? (What is your worst quality as a person?)
Sophia's best quality is her general helpfulness. She tries to live out her political and theological philosophy. Sophia's worst quality is a lack of common sense. She's never really had to survive completely on her own.
08. Describe your personality in only two words.
Sophia is intense and friendly.
09. Describe your favorite things and least favorite things. (foods, drinks, books, music, assault rifles, etc.)
Sophia accumulates philosophical (political and theological) books. Her favorites are a couple that her father gave her. As far as food goes, she has a sweet tooth.
10. They say that you can judge a man by the enemies he makes and the friends he keeps. Who is your "nemesis" and who are your allies?
Sophia's former superiors pursued her to re-up. When she refused, citing philosophical differences, they quickly grew to distrust her. Some within Alliance counter-intelligence are convinced that she'll use her knowledge and skills to cause them harm. Others are convinced she's gone nuts, especially after she ran off to join an odd Christian sect. As a result, she can find both enemies and allies within this group.
11. What is your romantic life like? (Orientation? A virgin? Has there been a "great love?")
Sophia's too busy with her intellectual world and it doesn't even occur to her to pursue romance or sex. So, yeh, she's a virgin. If someone manages to pull her out of the clouds, she'd be interested in either gender. (Gnostic clergy isn't celibate and can be gay.)
12. What do you fear? (Do you have reoccurring nightmares or dreams?)
Sophia has an irrational fear of the idea of mind control.
13. Who do you look up to? (If there isn't anyone now, was there someone in the past?)
Sophia used to look up to her financially and politically successful father. She wanted nothing more than to please him. Now, she just wants his love.
14. What offer would be irresistible enough for you to betray your friends or crewmates?
Unlimited access to Mr. Universe's information network would tempt Sophia. She would actually have to think about it. If someone could destroy her Church or kill her family, they'd get a deal.
15. What principle matters to you most?
Individual freedom.
16. What is your most treasured possession? Why?
Sophia's favorite possession is a portable computer that she keeps her books on. Unlike the paper screens most people use, hers is a more resilient "laptop" style machine. It's a military model that was obviously designed to take a hit or two. It also has little travel stickers all over the case, so when closed it resembles an old suitcase. Sophia values this item the most since it has been her meal ticket and the tool she uses to study towards Gnosis.
17. Who do you value most in all the 'Verse?
Despite the fact that Sophia has abandoned everything he stands for, she still values her father the most.
18. What are your ambitions? (What are your social, professional and romantic goals? What do you wish you could do that you can't?)
Sophia wants travel and see the 'verse; eventually founding her own Church. Since she doesn't belong to a proselytizing faith, she saves her preaching for political philosophy. These lessons are designed to encourage freedom of information and the spread underground economics.
19. Where do you picture yourself 20 years from now?
One of two things; either Sophia will be living quietly amidst a religious community or she'll be in an Alliance prison for sedition.
20. What other kind of work have you done to pay the bills?
Alliance military counter-intelligence in the war. Knocked about as a freelance hacker for a bit. Lastly, entered the clergy.
21. What are your political and religious beliefs, if you have any? (Do you have any prejudices?)
Political: Agorist
Agorists are advocates or conscious practitioners of counter-economics (peaceful black and grey markets). As the counter economy expands, it challenges the authority of the State, crippling its ability to operate. With the State's coercive monopoly undermined, the market is then able to generate the security services necessary to openly defend their clientele against coercive government (taxation being treated as theft, war being treated as mass murder, et cetera). The organisational nature of these services is ultimately determined by the market based on effectiveness, efficiency, and expense. Agorists spurn political participation in favour of counter-economics, as political participation is seen to be costly, time consuming, and ineffective.
Religious: Christian Gnostic
The creator of this world is demented and is not the true, distant and unknowable Deity. The material universe is a defilement of the Deity -- the god of light/spirit. The ultimate end is to overcome matter and be reunited with the parent spirit and realm of light. This cannot be achieved by submission to religious laws or through grace. Redemption or salvation will occur by awakening the sleeping gnosis (knowledge/wisdom) -- thereby freeing the good spirit imprisoned within the evil physical body.
Prejudices: Any group, religious or political, that restricts individuals from achieving their true potential.
This will include, but isn't exclusive to; the Alliance, mega-corps, large religions dependent on conformity, etc.
22. What were you doing during the Unification Wars? (How has the war effected you? Did you serve in the war? Which side? Did you lose anyone you cared about in the war?)
Sophia was a Union idealist. She signed on the dotted line to join the War effort. Due to her education and background, Sophia didn't see front line action. She worked in "counter-intelligence." Sophia was a hacker and counter-hacker for the military.
The Alliance lost her loyalty, due to the war. Working in the division that she did, Sophia learned things about how the government and military really thought. They really weren't interested in peace and unity for the benefit of the people. They wanted it for control and power. Knowing this, Sophia left the service after her term was up.
23. Do you have any hobbies? (How do you pass the time away?)
When Sophia isn't actively doing something else, she's can be found studying on her computer or reading books.
24. What event in your life that you did are you most proud of? Most shameful of?
Sophia is the most proud of her ordination. She is the least proud of her work for the Alliance military, during the war.
25. What have you been doing the last few months?
Due to the fact that Gnosticism requires experiencing the world to understand it; Sophia began preparing to explore the 'verse. She's spent the last few months putting together her supplies and plans.
26. If you the player could give your character a piece of advice, what would it be?
Be practical! Stop living in an idealist intellectual world and work at your goals in a realistic way.
